It all started in 2014 with a "harebrained" idea (and probably with a Dark & Stormy in hand...) to one day buy a sailboat and sail through the Caribbean for at least a year. After many conversations, lots of research, test sails, and convincing our two kids to sign on (it didn't take much!), we will finally be setting sail on our 52' Lagoon, Summer Kai. We named our boat after our girls in the hopes that they will always want to sail with us.

In 2016 Summer Kai was built in Bordeaux, France at the Lagoon Catamaran Factory. We had a crew sail her to Florida and then up to Annapolis, Maryland where we spent the summer and fall getting to know and provision her. The next step was significantly downsizing our belongings and renting out our house in Laguna Beach, California.

After working out endless logistics, we moved aboard Summer Kai full time in June 2017, for what we're sure will be an experience of a lifetime. We are currently based in Newport, Rhode Island for the summer before heading down the coast. Along the way we will be homeschooling our girls, which will also be an adventure in itself as they will be entering Kindergarten and 8th Grade.
